Massachusetts based school has announced ban on publicizing students achievements
A famous schools based in Massachusetts has stirred lots of controversies by keeping a full stop to the famous practice of acknowledging the list of achievers in the regional newspaper. The principal of the school Paul Richards is of the opinion that this practice creates lots of stress among the students especially in the modern competitive era unlike the initial stages when it was launched long time ago.
It is also reported that this practice has come into action immediately after a parent made an issue about this. As a result it was passed in school council and since they were agreed and parents were also intimated the move has now come into effect. This happened in the previous month. It is believed that this move will do lot of good. This move has received lots of appreciation from parents and students especially among those who have been affected in one way or other. Many parents and children have also reveled that they have had several bitter experiences in this aspect. Therefore they not only welcome this move but also condemn the practice which existed for such a long time and created unnecessary agony to so many persons.
The principal of the school also expressed his contempt for the practice and also said that this does not reflect the actual potential of the students and there are many who excel in extra curricular activities and such a practice gives unwanted importance for academics. Similarly he said that practice is quiet unhealthy because of the simple reason that the objective of the school was to build the overall personality of a child and not to asses students just by book knowledge. The principal also held that this decision is subject to amendment after analyzing its effect over the next academic year.
The chief Editor of Needham Times said that this decision lacked merit. His newspaper has been publishing the list of honors over the times. He was of the opinion that this does decision does not address the problem and also added that the newspaper has always expressed interest in publishing the list of students who do well in extracurricular activities.
