Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) refers to an anxiety disorder that is caused by unnecessary obsessions or thoughts and rituals or compulsions which is out of the control of the sufferer. The practices such as hand washing, cleaning, checking, counting are performed for preventing the obsessive thoughts. If the thoughts are not put into action, it increases the anxiety.
On the other hand performing those actions gives only a temporary relief. If this condition is not treated, it may result in serious problems to the life an individual. OCD is a chronic illness. These thoughts and behaviors are generally upsetting the day to day lives of individuals with this disorder.
The symptoms of this disorder range from mild to severe. Severe is similar to disabling and chronic condition. The symptoms include repetitive thoughts or ides, repetitive behavior, impulses etc. These obsessions are difficult to stop and cause anxiety. Some obsessions are even violent.
