A social phobia, fear or apprehension in certain social situations or concern about the perception of others is a mild form of social anxiety. What Are The Symptoms?
Social anxiety disorder symptoms take three forms, cognitive, behavioral, and physiological. Any combination of symptoms may be present with varying degrees of severity.
COGNITIVE
A sense of dread tops the list of the cognitive symptoms of social anxiety disorder. Normally sufferers set such high performance standards for themselves as to be impossible to meet and will obsessively prepare for the event only elevating their level of apprehension. They will engage in elaborate "worst case scenarios" and at the event itself will interpret neutral or ambiguous remarks and conversations as critical and negative in tone.

People who suffer from social anxiety disorder literally do not see, hear, or interpret events, settings, and actions as other people would.
BEHAVIORAL
The social anxiety disorder patient will seek to control their phobia through behaviors of escape and avoidance. They may suddenly exit the room in the middle of a presentation on the job or in a class and will do everything they can not to be put in such a situation in the first place. The individual may avoid contact or engage in self-protective stances such as crossing their arms tightly across their bodies. Preventing these automatic responses is one of the most difficult aspects of social anxiety disorder treatment.
PHYSIOLOGICAL
It is not unusual for people to blush, cry, sweat, shake, and have heart palpitations, nausea, or other gastric upset in the midst of a social anxiety attack. Since these symptoms tend to call attention to the individual they only make the social anxiety much worse.
