Common Treatment for Phobias
While a phobia may be intense, a phobia cure or at the very least a successful coping mechanism can be found to address some if not all phobia symptoms. Some avenues of phobia treatment include:
Psychotherapy
Overcoming phobias must begin with a desire on the part of the phobic to be free of their fear. Psychotherapy techniques like behavior and cognitive therapy are often the avenue of treatment. In sessions therapists challenge the phobic to change their thinking and behaviors in relation to the object of their fear. This may involve relaxation techniques and even hypnosis with the goal of relieving stress and redirecting reactions and behavior. While this method may not result in a fast phobia cure it usually does result in an effective and long-lasting one.
Medication
To complement psychotherapy, anti-anxiety medications are often used as a temporary cure for a phobia

until the phobic makes the cognitive leap that leads to control of their fear in the absence of chemical intervention. Medications are normally used in situations where the fear is so intense it is having a negative effect on the patient's personal and work lives.
Self-help
Self-help is the process of motivating one's self, even in a very slow manner, to overcome a long held fear. While this is unquestionably the most difficult route, and one that requires the support of family members, friends, and often other people with the same fear, there are many people who can, working on their own, successfully overcome their fears.
The stresses of modern life as well as some of the primal reactions hard-coded into the brain of man are responsible for the long list of phobias from which humans can suffer. There are all types of phobias ranging from those that are mild and easily managed to fears that are severe and negatively effect the person's quality of life. Often the method chosen for managing or curing a phobia is directly effected by the severity of the fear and the degree to which the individual encounters the source of their fear in their home and work life.
